No matter what you love, there’s always a discussion on who the GOAT is. Most of the time it’s just down to what generation you are, & the time you grew up. Many of the old brigade will talk about creators/sportspeople from the 50s to the 70s. The cool generation (mine) will find their favourites from the 80s & 90s. Young pups mostly can’t see past someone who’s only been around 5 minutes, because, kids eh?
But I’m here to tell everyone how wrong they are. Because the real GOATs?
Yes, actual real life Goats, walking round a Town Centre that isn’t a rural one. No idea where they came from, but it was an odd Sunday morning after the gym.
The seasons a non starter
This particular week in time, there was a lot of sports ball, but it was a bit of a damp squib.
The boy had picked up a bit of an injury which caused him to struggle in the first friendly since he had signed. The dry pitches at this time of year weren’t helping, as an glutes injury from 2 years ago had resurfaced. It affected his lower back which meant he ran like he was trying to sit down. Comical if you’re watching a sketch on Monty Python, but worrying as a parent.
Then as Saturday came, the Manager chose to rest him from the first competitive match of the season. It was because they weren’t expected to win in a cup game against opposition from a league above, & he’d rather have Ty back fit for what is important this season, the league.
Any Coach will tell you it makes sense, but he also asked the boy to travel to be at the game. Which as anyone who plays sports will know, having to sit & watch a game you want to play in is murder.
A tough defeat on penalties. The season was still looking promising though.
While the cats away…
No, nothing like that. With no football on Saturday, the Mrs & I took another little walk, again to Ironbridge. We just needed to get out of the house.
After spending the past couple of years not missing the opening day of the season, I think it was just an unnatural feeling of being sat on the sofa watching results come through on an App. So a spot of nature was needed.
We also went out for a bit of coffee & cake. We used to go out every Saturday morning before the football started, so it was nice to get back to one of our favourite haunts. The Mrs won’t forgive me for this picture, but she’ll never know, so…
Life as an artist
This particular week, I completed the storybook I’d been working on for 6 months. The final pencilled drawings had been scanned, uploaded, & then thanks to technology, I could remove the two people from the page & add two dogs. Once that page was swapped, it was finished & emailed over to the client. Happy days!!
The only thing I have keft to do is get a couple of copies printed. But that’s just finding the best, economical job.
Meanwhile, Evan Dorkin was out here making me laugh & reminding me how it used to feel, drawing 24 hours a day & feeling like projects were never going to end. Now I had decided that for the foreseeable future, I would be concentrating on getting my own stuff back on track. Even if it was only me who wanted to see it.
Change!!
After such a long period where I felt like I wasn’t making any progress, this particular week really felt like a step forward. Finishing that one project finally opened everything up for me, creating wise.
Meanwhile, that week was the start of making it to the gym 6 times in 12 days, which has been huge in recent months for me. I really needed to pick myself back up, mentally & physically. Was this finally a step forward?
It’s not about finding perfection. It’s about turning up, REGULARLY. That’s where the change happens.
